About Me

I’m Aby Thannikal Joseph, a Test Manager in financial-services technology. My work focuses on testing and quality engineering in UK banking, and I build practical AI applications. This site is where I document what I build, learn and apply.

I started out as a Test Automation Engineer, and engineering is still how I approach delivery. I would rather automate a repeated task than do it twice, and these days that instinct extends to AI: building small applications and agent-based tools, and working out how to test and trust them.

I’ve been at Cognizant since 2016, and most of my work since 2020 has been for UK financial-services clients: payments and regulatory change, mortgages and a core database migration at a building society, and an Azure integration for an insurer. Today I lead delivery across UK banking and financial-services programmes, and I help colleagues adopt AI in their testing work.

What I work on

Testing and delivery

Leading testing and delivery for financial-services technology: planning, quality and risk, and keeping engineering and business stakeholders aligned.

Practical AI

Building AI applications and agent-based workflows, and exploring how to evaluate, govern and assure them.

Engineering roots

Test automation, Azure and DevOps: the foundation for most of the tutorials on this site.

How I got here

I hold a degree in Mechatronics Engineering. I wanted to build and program things, and it felt like the perfect intersection of those interests.

Writing came early. Re-reading an article about a utility I wrote when I was 17 is what prompted this blog: if a handful of people find something here useful, it has done its job.

From test automation I moved into test management and delivery leadership, where the question shifted from “does this work?” to “will this land safely, on time, with everyone confident in it?”

What I write about

AI systems and delivery, test automation, Azure and DevOps, with payments and lending as the domain I know best. The writing comes from the same work, starting with tutorials from years of test automation. Start with all writing, or browse Test Automation and Azure.

Building, writing and AI

In my day-to-day work, I help financial services clients navigate complex testing landscapes, manage testing challenges across large-scale transformation programmes and technology upgrades, and deliver change safely while keeping business priorities at the heart of it.

But at heart, I’m a builder and engineer. I learn by building, often turning my perspectives on the industry into working prototypes to explore, challenge, and demonstrate ideas.

Like many engineers, I tend to build first and document later. Except sometimes, “later” never happens (guilty as charged!). I’ve always believed in sharing knowledge, but finding the time to turn experiments, code, and scattered notes into something readable isn’t always easy.

You’ll probably notice the gaps between some of my older blog posts. It’s not that I stopped building, learning, or having opinions — I just didn’t always get around to writing about them. Over time, I’ve come to appreciate even more how important it is to share those experiences, lessons, and perspectives.

Everything I share here comes from my own work, experiments, and learning. I use AI as an editing assistant to polish my writing, improve clarity, and make my rough drafts more readable.

The thinking, the work, and the lessons are mine. AI just helps me document them better.

If you’re curious how much I actually build with AI, my AI coding activity page tracks it.
